Before the COVID-19 crisis hit the way of learning for every student was a normal one, the same routine of going to class and attending the lectures and studying in a conventional was drastically changed during this crisis. In the current scenario the trend of online education is going up as more learners are learning through online platforms and various universities and colleges all over the globe have shifted their classrooms to online platforms and this has helped every student to continue the studies.

Online education is not new to this globe as it was developed in the 1960s and 1980s and during this age of Modernization its popularity grew and online education has many advantages named to it as it has enabled every person who has a desire to explore and learn new things easily and in a convenient way. It has enabled working professionals to learn new things comfortably while he can work and this way of education has helped a lot of people to acquire new skills easily and conveniently. Online education is very flexible in terms of its usage as the user can adjust the rate and timing of his learning and he can learn at his own pace which is not possible in conventional learning. According to the statistical data from around 87% of studying students search for online studying programs and around 67% of those use mobile devices to complete the online course work and around 43% of the universities have invested in new online resources and in training.



Students have their own time and also learn in their own paced manner since all the lectures are available online if a student is consistent it takes minimal time to complete his course rather than taking it long. A student can revisit a lecture as many times as possible to view it until he understands a topic. A student can take any course of his interest and can learn at his pace. Online education is also be termed as Distance learning education as it is leaning away from the university. Since a student can learn for other field it opens a window of opportunities for a student to explore many dominant and to increase his knowledge and domain experience. There is also a reduction in cost as it saves a lot of money for the students for commuting and also there is a reduction in variable cost. The students get personalized time with the instructor to clear any problems regarding the subject. The student will also acquire self-discipline and self-management skills to complete his work.

So, even though we discussed a lot of advantages over the online education there are also disadvantages regarding this platform, there is always a part of society that is devoid of all the facilities that a student from a city receives and it is a huge factor because those people lack the basic connectivity to the internet world and 66% of the Indian people live in rural households, so the internet access to these areas is below 15%. According to the National Sample Survey’s report on education, only 24% of the household in India have internet access, but nowadays this number is increasing day-by-day due to the schemes announced by the Indian Government.

According to various reports, there are about 30% of households that lack basic infrastructure and for online learning, the students need a good environment for learning and this learning is impossible if there is no infrastructure. Online learning cannot and will not offer human interactions as given by conventional educations as human interaction is the best learning experience than all other sources. The poor students have to bear the cost of internet usage if there are regular classes by the tutor and in this current scenario, this can’t be afforded by everyone.

The COVID-19 has shown us there is a perfect imbalance between all walks of people all over the globe and this has to improved by the government and has to be supported by its respective citizens all the globe. Online learning should be seen as tools and an extension for conventional learning and people should not believe that it cannot replace classroom learning.
