One of the most prestigious universities in India, Delhi University has received approximately 3.5 lakh applications for undergraduate (UG) courses this year, almost a lakh more from the last year. The Delhi University is one-stop destination for all stream students, be it commerce, science or humanities with top colleges like St.Stephen’s College, Miranda House, Hindu College, Delhi College of Arts and Commerce, Ramjas, SRCC, Sri Venkateshwar etc.
The reason for the high number of aspirants can be the admission portal being open for longer than usual, for about 10 weeks. The unprecedented situation due to the pandemic has also made the students who otherwise would have gone abroad to apply at DU. Also as the entrance examinations like NEET, JEE got delayed, the students registered for admission at DU. This has made the varsity to take the required measures to go online for admission this year and ensuring glitch-free, least cumbersome procedure.
It is also evident that the pandemic was unable to deter the students from other states to apply at DU (about 60% students). The semester will be online with no need for students to come to Delhi until the situation gets better. This Covid-19 pandemic has made it impossible to conduct the physical classes as social distancing is hardly feasible in the college campus.
The cut-offs are expected to be declared in the first week of October. The classes shall begin not before early November for the 1st year students of DU. For the students of second and third year, the online lectures have already begun in full swing from early August.
